“The Calm Place” is the title of my forthcoming book, independently published in June 2023. It chronicles a year in my Scottish garden, initially intended as a simple writing exercise for my eyes only to notice and write about the life that comes and goes in a small space throughout the course of a year. However, that year turned out to be 2020, and the garden (and writing the book) soon developed much more significance, as the restrictions of pandemic lockdown filled every part of life. The joys and beauty of the natural life on the doorstep take on new significance in a world of shrinking boundaries and social distance.
